Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA - Jerusalem Schools Refuse to Teach Israeli Revised Textbooks

This is really a very serious and complex issue. What is taught to students on both sides of the problem, will have a lot to do with any chance for peace in the future. If we can not teach the children in a way that makes the situation work for all sides, then our chances of making peace if not in our lives, but more importantly theirs very difficult. Our biases, and perceived injustices done to us, are very apparent to the children, which they see every time they look into the eyes of their parents or a soldier. We need to keep in out of the Schools, give the children a chance for peace.

It has been done in the past, not all that successfully, but attempted, and should be done again, lets get both sides together and develop a neutral text book. The teachers will add enough bias on their own, lets at least give the children a chance to see a peaceful term can be used in the situation.

  1. Rich, this is an excellent suggestion. Writing a common textbook may be the first step in discovering what both sides have in common, what both sides want for their children.

It may also be useful to provide leadership workshops for kids from both sides, so they can start thinking about building a common future with peace and prosperity for all.
