Locking the cockpit: How airline security varies

While some aircraft have a hidden release, it can be disabled by the pilot inside. The idea of hardening the cockpit doors was initially discouraged by some pilots who felt they might get trapped within during an emergency. Few envisioned they would get trapped outside. The bottom line is that human beings are the last point of failure (and last line of defense) in any security system. (TH)
