A Tactical Assessment of the Islamic State's Bombing Operations

This report is well worth the free signup to Stratfor. It is a good case study of a bombing as well as an excellent overview of the Islamic Bombing threat.

Drug violence in Juárez harmed children, expert says

Drug Cartel Terrorism in a Border City: The Impact on Children's Social and Mental Health." Two take aways from this report are, one the US Government is stating the Drug Cartel's are Terrorists, and two the myth many hide behind that only the folks dealing in Drugs are effected by the Cartels terrorism. Crime as measure by FBI Uniformed Crime Reporting maybe down, but these crimes against children on both sides of he border are not reported, and are growing every day.

Eight family members decapitated in north Mexico

This is not happening in the Middle East, this is happening less than 100 miles to the south on our US border. The Cartels have been doing things like this for years, long before the ISIS decapitations. The youngest was 14, this follows a week on multiple shooting, 11 carried out less that 5 miles from our border City of McAllen Tx. Well within the range of bullets from AK-47's and well within the killing range of Barret 50 Caliber rifles. 10 of which where just found in Reynosa, less than a 1/4 mile from the US Border.

Hidalgo County courthouse design estimated at $149M

When costs are cut, way to often the first thing cut are security needs. I hope someone is keeping an eye on the security needs of the new courthouse. A well designed security plan for the building will help keep us all safer and in the end reduce the number of personal needed to run the security of the Court House. The National Sheriffs Association has people that will look over the plans and give the County what they have found in best practices for designing a courthouse. I and CTI have done parts of these surveys in the past, as well as taught Sheriff's Departments on how to handle high risk trials, even terrorist trials. It all so much more effective in security was involved in the initial design.

11 killed in Rio Bravo shootout

The violence continues, Rio Bravo is just across the border, often after an event like this the bad guys, and often the police as well escape across the border to wait out the retaliation violence that normally follows these events. While over on the US Side they still act as the criminals that they are, but use violence and the threats of violence to keep US Citizens from reporting their criminal activities. People know not to go to certain restaurants or bar's to avoid dealing with the Cartel , and often Mexican Police. One of our recent kidnappings involved a Mexican Police officer not happy about his girl friend dating a local business man. It was written off as Domestic Violence I am told.

The Staggering Death Toll of Mexico’s Drug War – Drug Lord: The Legend of Shorty - FRONTLINE

This is a must read article, Mexico makes ISIS look tame, yet we expend most of our energy on the Mid East. Many political leaders cite the down trend in crime along the border as a way of saying that there is not a problem. What most do not realize these crime stats are based on FBI Uniform Crime Reporting. Even the FBI knows that these reporting forms are way out of date, and do not reflect crime we are seeing now days in a realistic way. We have a problem on the border, and it is real. Not just Mexican imigrants are a problem. The MS-13 gang one of the most violent, comes out of El Salvador and slips members in over our Southern Border everyday. Many are in this last wave of kids coming over, and get treated like them. Most know who they are, usually tattoos are found in plain site, yet under Federal Programs they are treated like any other kids. Mexico is helping to send these and Mexican criminals over on a daily basis. Mexico does not want them in their country, cost of their violence, or prison time is to much, better to send them to the US ASAP.

Rep. John Katko unveils bill to reform TSA's employee screening process at U.S. airports

The subject line is kind of scary at first glance, but as you read what Rep Katko is pushing it actually shows a lot of good thoughts being brought forth. I think we need to use a risk based security process in all security spending, not just TSA, but it is a good place to start.

5 people killed, to include the shooter, Federal, State & Local Law Enforcement converging to work the investigation. Some news centers complaining about the number involved, actually with these attacks happening more and more, we need investigators being familiar with carrying out these, plus we need Law Enforcement learning from the best practices of dealing with these attacks.

United hackers given million free flight miles - BBC News

These kind of deals are making a very robust (white hat) hacker community somewhat wealthy. It is sort of a bounty program for vulnerabilities. It has a varied success track record, some times it has been more a extortion deal. If you don't pay me I will either sit on the vulnerability till someone exploits it, or expose it to the hacker world. Tough call for a business to make.

Despite international ban, US Army wants hollow point bullets

This full report will need to be read, but many agree with the findings already. It has been one of those myths like the shotguns use that has stayed for ever. The hollow point with some of the new ballistic studies in recent years, seems to have made it into the acceptable range again, enough for a formal statement by the Army.

The loss of fingerprint data could be just as damaging as the personal information. We still don't know if the hackers used their administrative access to merely steal the information in OPM's database, or added/altered a few records for later use.

Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman escapes - CNN.com

This could set the tone for the end of this Mexican Presidency, sort of the final straw. The interesting part is no one believes this could not have been without the expressed concent of the corrupt Mexican Government and that includes the President. So the President would have been part of his own demise. The concern is for the safety of Mexican Citizens, power shifts normally mean more violence.

ScoreBand PULSE - Compact Laser Rangefinder for Golf

For those doing protective assignments and or security surveys for clients. it is invaluable to have a device that can do quick accurate range finding. I have and still use google earth as well as a number of GPS apps, but I just tested a laser ranger finder to replace our expensive one's that have gone on the blink. This one is made for golfers but goes out 400 yards, more than enough for most blast analysis as well as basic counter sniper surveys You can also use it to range where espionage listening devices could be based on power of the devices. Less than 200 dollars, it is a 10th the cost of our old ones. If you like more professional looking versions here is on for 107$ http://ift.tt/1M1QfHT the maker has one a little more expensive that goes out to 900 yards.
