We all need to reduce the noise in our brains. The more the reduction of noise, the more you senses will work. Making your awareness that much more effective. Simple breathing skills learned from any number of sources, I use yoga methods, will work. As you get up, go to sleep, and anytime during the day you need to. Take 10 rhythmic, fairly deep breaths, this alone will start to clear the mind. Count the breaths, concentrate on the count, this also helps to clear the mind. Give it a try, it works.
