Having a Work Place Violence Team and a Plan is just good business, but these new pushes are aimed at finding firms at legal fault for any occurrence of work place violence. If your read the new California OSHA Standards going into effect on July 1, 2016 just a few months away, the statement it is immaterial if the person effected was actually hurt, or even in the actual action. Which just allows all the people on premises to file a legal action against the Facility. It would be possible to have class action suite stemming from any workplace violence action. I am not sure the train can be slowed at this point, so all of our clients need to start documenting and training they have offered, as well as actions they have taken to help protect it's staff and clients. Using the FEMA Active Shooter on line class is a good start, require all staff that take the course to supply human resources with the certificate of training. FEMA also has a workplace violence training program on line as well.
