Wal-Mart on police call volume: 'We know we can do better'

This is going to happen a lot more in the coming years. As police are dealing with other calls for service with less resources, simple theft or shoplifting crimes are overwhelming the resources. Many stores are not prosecuting shoplifting, and try to prevent it by putting staff near suspected shoplifters. If a shoplifter can get out or even heading for the exits, they are normally allowed to leave. This policy from major outlet stores have more do with liability issues than police calls for service.
